India is on the verge of a famous win at Trent Bridge in the ongoing third Test match against England. In fact, there have been ten instances when a team batting fourth were nine down at the end of Day Four. Unsurprisingly, the batting team in all the ten cases went on to lose the match on the final day of the Test match.

The first such instance took place when England got the better of Australia in the early days of the game in 1894-95. England won that contest by 94 runs at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

India is on the cusp of a fine win.

In fact, the only instance when India was involved in such a match like this was way back in 1967-68. India went on to lose that match by a margin of 146 runs against Australia at Adelaide.

Thus, India will look to make it an 11th instance by winning the third Test match. The visitors had their backs against the wall after losing the first two Test matches. The first Test match could have gone either way when England won by 31 runs. Meanwhile, the second Test match was a one-sided affair as England won by a margin of an innings and 159 runs.

Meanwhile, India has been dominant right throughout the ongoing Test match. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were able to set up a good target of 329 runs as they put together an alliance of 159 runs. Furthermore, Hardik Pandya was able to sparkle with the ball as he took his maiden fifer. Kohli once again showed his class in the second innings.

Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a magical spell to get India back into the contest when Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes showed the much-needed resistance for England.

Here are the past ten instances.
