It was the third day of the fifth test match of India’s tour of England test series. The first two days were pretty much disheartening for the Indian supporters, as England were in full control of the fifth test match as well as the Test series. At the end of the second day England 385 for 7 with a lead of 237 runs.
At the start of the day, it was Joe Root and Jordan on crease, and Root was on 92. Ishant Sharma started the bowling for India and 5 runs came from the first over. Joe Root continued from where he left yesterday and he never looked tensed being on the nineties. In the 107th Root got to his hundred and after that Ishant took the wicket of Jordan. Jordan edged it to Dhoni and it was a good delivery from Ishant. Stuart Broad took guard and he started attacking from the first ball. Board hit three boundaries in the 108th over.
Broad and Root was playing extremely well and causing problems for India. They were hitting boundaries at regular interval and put 450 on board pretty quickly. In the 113th over Ishant took the wicket of Board. A short ball from Ishant did the trick for India. Anderson came on to bat. Root was playing very well and started hitting boundaries at ease. In the 116th over the England innings came to an end when Anderson was dismissed by Ashwin. It was disappointing for Root as he was unbeaten at 149 just one run short of `150.
The Indian top order had a huge task on hand, to save the test match as they were trailing by over 300 runs. Vijay and Gambhir opened for India and Anderson was given the first go for England. One run came from the first over. In the fifth over England got their first success of the match when Vijay was dismissed by Anderson. It was a great inswinger from Anderson and again India’s opening partnership failed. It was a disaster for India when Gambhir gave his wicket away, as he ran himself out. After fall of the second wicket rain stopped the play and everyone was in for early lunch.
After few hours of gap play again resumed and England was trying to end the competition in this session. In the 13th over Pujara gave his wicket away and it was again Anderson with the ball, who did the trick. In the 17th over Broad took the wicket of Rahane and the Indian innings was collapsing very fast. In the very next over Woakes dismissed Dhoni for a duck. It was becoming embarrassing for India. In the 23rd over Jordan took the wicket of Kohli and now it was looking difficult for India to even reach a hundred. Jordan struck again in the 25th over dismissing Ashwin and in the same over he took the wicket of Bhubaneswar Kumar. Indian innings was wrapped up in the 30th over for just 94 runs.
It was again embarrassing season for team India. They again suffered an innings defeat and lost the series 3-1. It was a shame for India, Dhoni and the board should sort out things very fast after this shameful defeat.
