England Vs Ireland 2017: Skipper Eoin Morgan Praises Five-Fer Man Adil Rashid
Even before the start of the first ODI between England and Ireland, it was confirmed that Adil Rashid will be playing as the specialist spinner for his side ahead of Moeen Ali.
It came as a surprise, as it has always been Ali who has been preferred over the two but this time, skipper Eoin Morgan went for Rashid.
The step to play Rashid worked in favour of the team, as the leg-spinner toppled the Irish batting line-up, scalping his maiden five-wicket haul in the ODIs. Ireland side had a good start when they came out to bat but the moment spin was introduced, the visiting side crumbled and lost their last seven wickets for a score of 45.
It was the pair of Adil Rashid and Joe root which shared seven wickets among themselves, to script a low score for Ireland.
England skipper heaped praises on Rashid for his match winnings performance as he said,
“It was a tough time in the winter and he’s clearly learned from it. He’s slowly building back enough confidence. Coming out with his career-best performance after having a very tough winter in India and starting to put something together in the West Indies – it shows the threat leg-spin has.”
“It’s probably up there. It’s a great feeling getting a five-for in any conditions. I feel as though I am improving and hopefully I can carry it on. You have good days, you have bad days. It’s how you deal with it. Sometimes you don’t feel great but you have to find a Plan B, Plan C.”
Both the teams will face each other for the second ODI on May 7, where the home side will look to stamp a series win.
