It seems like troubles continue to stretch for England team with the World Cup players picking up injuries on a regular basis. After the injuries to Jason Roy and Hales ban, now, it is Moeen Ali, who picked up an injury. It certainly sees him out of the playing XI for the first ODI clash against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the leg-spinning all-rounder Joe Denly would receive yet another cap in the first ODI against Pakistan in place of Moeen Ali. He recently made his debut in the shortest format of the game and looked good enough to tackle the international teams.
Moeen Ali is in the decent form:
Coming to Moeen Ali, he has been in the sensational form when he plied his trade for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2019. Moeen Ali made his way back to England in the middle of the tournament but unfortunately, suffered a rib cage injury.
Jason Roy is also unlikely to feature alongside Moeen Ali at The Oval on Wednesday due to a back problem but Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes are all in contention again having been rested for the ODI against Ireland and the T20I win over Pakistan.
The five-match ODI series between Pakistan and England commences on Wednesday, May 8. Meanwhile, Jofra Archer made an impressive debut in the Sunday’s T20I and likely to grab his chances now in the 50-over competition as well.
Speaking of Jofra Archer, the head coach seems to be quite impressed with the way he delivered the goods against Ireland and in the T20I game against Pakistan. He would get one more opportunity to press his case for ICC World Cup 2019.
Not only for Archer, but this would also be a good opportunity for the Pakistan players as well to make things fall in place for the ICC World Cup 2019. Especially, Mohammad Amir will be the cynosure of the eyes.
