Yet another injury concern hits the England and Wales Cricket Board team, as their young batsman Dawid Malan hit by an injury concern. He has been replaced by the swashbuckling batsman Phil Salt for the one-off T20I match against Pakistan Cricket Team, which will be played ahead of the 5-match ODI series.
Malan suffered a muscular injury in his groin while batting during Friday’s nervy four-wicket victory over Ireland and, despite completing his innings, has been ruled out of the trip to Cardiff. Wales-born Salt, 22, is the man to replace him in the 13-man group, joining county team-mates Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan.
Ben Duckett to open the innings:
Despite the call-up, he is unlikely to play. However, Ben Duckett, who is in the original party, will open the batting while Chris Jordan, a T20I regular for England, is likely to come into the side too.
Meanwhile, Phil Salt scored 355 runs in the T20 Blast last year as his side reached the final. He hit an unbeaten 137 off 106 balls in a One-Day Cup win over Kent on 21 April. The flamboyant striker of the ball has impressed the selectors more often than not with his big tallies on the board.
Announcing the news, England tweeted ‘Sussex batsman Phil Salt has been called into the IT20 squad for the match on Sunday replacing Dawid Malan who has a muscle injury to his left groin.”
