England Vs South Africa 2017 – ECB Unfazed By Rumors Of Bowling Coach’s Exit
Uncertainty continues to loom for the South African cricketing fraternity as it remains to be seen who will become the side’s next head coach. With Russell Domingo’s tenure as the side’s coach ending the ongoing tour of England, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has been on the hunt for an ideal replacement for Domingo.
Domingo however, has reapplied for the post, despite having his reservations about the same for quite a while. Another news which pours in is that CSA has expressed its interest in having Ottis Gibson on board as the team’s next coach, once the tour of England comes to an end.
Gibson at present, is the bowling coach of England and from its end, the ECB has stated that there hasn’t been any communication from CSA’s side regarding Gibson’s role for the near future. Having coached the West Indies for quite a while, it makes sense for CSA to pursue behind Gibson.
“Ottis is someone who has obviously had a lot of international experience,” said England’s assistant coach Paul Farbrace. “He did a great job for the West Indies, won the Twenty20 World Cup as a head coach, then lost out in a semifinal against Sri Lanka – which was a bit unfortunate for him.”
“But at the moment Russell Domingo is head coach of South Africa and doing a brilliant job and it would be disrespectful of us to talk about his position all the time he’s in it,” Farbrace said. “We’ve obviously heard the news tonight, but I promise you we’ve had nothing official. It’s all being left now until the end of the series, I hope.”
