England Vs South Africa 2017: England Cannot Win Ashes Without Ben Stokes – Michael Vaughan

In the last couple of years, all-rounder Ben Stokes has emerged as the biggest match winner for England by far. The brawny all rounder on his own has turned around several contests and his aggressive approach to the game makes him a rare asset worth having in the side in all conditions and against all oppositions. Stokes has been so clinical in his approach that if a dream team was to be picked from a current lot of players, Stokes would be the first one to feature in it.

Stokes made his aura on display recently against South Africa at the Oval, as his sheer all round brilliance decimated the Proteas. At one stage England were headed for a disaster in the first innings, but Stokes turned it around with an aggressive knock to save the bushes for England.

Later in the game, his two quick wickets with the ball further turned the tide as the Proteas were left high and dry. Given his rich contributions to England throughout, former skipper Michael Vaughan has apparently said that England is so reliant on Stokes, that it isn’t possible for the side to win the upcoming Ashes without him.

“Over the next few months the skipper Joe Root will be crossing his fingers and having some restless nights with his baby thinking “wait a minute, I’ve got the baby to look after but my mind’s also on Ben Stokes”, said Vaughan post the third Test in London.

On backing Stokes to win the Ashes for England, Vaughan added,

“I don’t think England have got a chance in Australia without Stokes. I think with him, they’ve got a very good chance.”
