England Vs South Africa 2017: “It’s An Important Part Of Our Development,” Opines Eoin Morgan After Dropping Himself In Decider

Never ever a captain would drop himself from the playing XI until and unless he has been banned for a game but Eoin Morgan took the brave decision to sit out in the ultimate decider of the T20I series against South Africa, which resulted in inviting controversy, as the decision did not come good to many of the former cricketers.
England though won the game but what if punt had gone the other way? Then Morgan would have been termed as a non-serious leader who left his team when needed the most but the England’s limited overs skipper defended himself by saying that making a space for the youngster was part of the development of the team,
“It’s an important part of our development. Our success in 50-over cricket and T20 has been down to the strength in depth we’ve had in the side. Ideally, yes [I would have played]. It’s a very difficult situation to be in. I love playing international cricket, but unfortunately, that is the case today. It’s tough, but it’s a call you have to make looking for the long term,” said Morgan.
Unlike testing a new man for the captaincy duties like Australia did against India in the year 2012, Jos Buttler was handed the baton who has earlier led his side in the ODI series against Bangladesh last year. Buttler marched his side to a remarkable win by a margin of 19 runs, to win the second series against South Africa on the trot.
Dawid Malan, the debutant shone for England with an innings of 78 of 44 to win the Man of the Match award. Buttler too played his part well with an innings of 31 off 22.
With this win, England clinched the T20I series by a margin of 2-1. They had already won the ODI series as well by a margin of 2-1 which was played last month. A four-match Test series now awaits both the sides which should be a thriller. Both England and South Africa are yet to announce their squad for the five-day games.
