England Vs West Indies 2017: James Anderson Is Just Too Good – Joe Root

The loss at Leeds received the appropriate remedy as England sealed the third and final Test at Lord’s in some style by nine wickets. With the win, skipper Joe Root can look back at his first home summer as captain in high spirits, as a series triumph over South Africa was followed by a 2-1 series victory over the West Indians.
The third Test though would best be remembered for one man – James Anderson. The legendary pacer scalped his 500th victim right here on the most iconic surface of the sport and his spell in the second innings was beyond superlatives.
Thanks to Anderson’s seven wicket haul in the second innings, England chased down a little over 100 with nine wickets to spare and wrapped up the series. Post the win, skipper Joe Root was quite delighted and lauded Anderson for his feat.
“The guys were fantastic this morning and set the tone beautifully,” said Root. “I think he pretty much speaks for himself. The hard work Anderson puts behind the scenes. The control he has with both the balls, new and old. To be able to hold a length for a significant amount of time is a fantastic skill. He’s very good, he’s very good.”
Adding that the summer had been a memorable one for him, he said:
“He’s brilliant in the dressing room, very insightful, very helpful. We have played some great cricket throughout the summer. The way we have won is fantastic and hopefully, we can take that momentum forward this winter. We are moving forward as a team. It’s been thoroughly enjoyable. Plenty of learning’s along the way and I’m sure there will be more in the future.”
