Haseeb Hameed, 19, whilst his 82 runs innings in the first Test match against India at Rajkot, rewrote history as he went on to break a 110-year record. Hameed, by virtue of scoring 82 runs in the second innings, became the highest run-scorer on Test debut by a teenager. Previously, this record was owned by the England all-rounder Jack Crawford, who scored 74 on his debut against South Africa at Cape Town in the year 1906.

From past 110 years, this record remained safe and untouched before Haseeb Hameed finally broke it to become the proud owner of it. Though, there have been many cricketers who have scored a century or a double ton on debut but never in the history any teenager have been able to do what he has done. Hameed was quite close to a ton but was refrained by Amit Mishra, who grabbed a smart caught & bowled chance to dismiss him.

Well, Hameed must be a proud man as his record was applauded by none other than the International Cricket Council (ICC), who tweeted about the same.

He must be feeling unlucky being not able to score a ton on his debut but he can be proud that he scored over 100 runs in both innings, showing promise and composure throughout his innings. Surely, if he continues to bat like this then he can be the answer to England’s opening woes in Tests.
