England’s Kevin Pietersen Opts Out Of 2017 IPL Auction
Citing the excuse of a busy winter, former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has opted to sit out of 2017 IPL auction, which is likely to happen in the last week of February.
Confirming the news through his official twitter handle, KP said he has been busy all winter and is in no mood to spend his summer by playing cricket in the cash-rich league in April and May. Pietersen, 37, played for Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) last year but was released by the franchise for the upcoming season.
Having a tough past season, Pietersen scored just 73 runs four matches before he teared his calf muscle that ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament, and opened the door for Australia’s Usman Khawaja to join the franchise.
FYI – I won’t be going into the IPL auction. My winter has been too busy with all my travel & I don’t want to spend April/May away too!

The right-handed batsman was a part of the Melbourne Stars side in Big Bash League (BBL) season six, where he scored 268 runs in eight games. Pietersen also participated in South Africa’s T20 domestic tournament, having played five games for Dolphins. However, he is expected to be a part of the upcoming season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Quetta Gladiators.
Contrary to the list of English cricketers who made themselves available for the auction, KP has been the first one to pull his name out. For the 2016 T20 World Cup finalists, all-rounder Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and batsman Jason Roy are expected to pocket huge bucks in the auction.
The lucrative league is however expected to commence from April 5, 2017.
