England’s veteran Alastair Cook Picks his All Time XI
England’s veteran southpaw batsman Alastair Cook has picked his All Time XI. In fact, Cook didn’t include any Indian player in his all-time XI team.
England’s experienced opener has decided to call curtains on his International career. Cook who made his Test debut against India will play his last match against the same team at the Oval from 7 Septemeber.
It has been a wonderful journey for Alastair Cook who has served England cricket for more than a decade. The left-hander has been the leading run-getter for England with 12,254 runs in the 160 Test matches. He has scored the most number of runs as an opener. Cook picked his team while speaking to Lord’s Cricket.
Meanwhile, Cook picked his coach Graham Gooch as the opener as well as the captain of his side. Gooch is one England’s finest and is the second leading Test run-scorer behind Cook.
Cook picked Australia’s pugnacious batsman Mathew Hayden as his second opener. One of the best batsmen of the world, Brian Lara takes the one down position in Cook’s team. Former Australia’s skipper Ricky Ponting bats at the fourth place for Cook.
In fact, there are two wicketkeepers in Cook’s team. South Africa’s combative batsman AB de Villiers takes the fifth place whereas Sri Lanka’s gloveman Kumar Sangakkara bats at the sixth place.
One of the best all-rounders to embrace the game – Jacques Kallis is at the seventh place in the batting order. Meanwhile, Cook’s team constitute the world’s best two spinners in Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne, who are the leading wicket-takers in red ball version.
Cook pace battery is also potent as he has the two leading fast bowlers (in terms of wickets). Glenn McGrath and Cook’s teammate James Anderson will share the new ball.
Here is Alastair Cook’s All-Time XI:
Graham Gooch (c), Mathew Hayden, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, AB de Villiers (wk), Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Jacques Kallis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, James Anderson and Glenn McGrath
