Sanjay Bangar, who was appointed as the head coach of the current Zimbabwe tour, has backed the youngsters to do well in the upcoming T20I series as they have enough pressure to deliver for the team.
Team India has dominated the ODI series in both the departments as they won the series quite comfortably. However, Zimbabwe are keen to forget the ODI series as they look to make a fresh start in the upcoming T20I series.
The hosts will have the added pressure of the fans as they failed miserably in the ODI series and Sanjay Bangar feels that Indian players will not be get affected by it.
“I believe there’s enough pressure on the youngsters to deliver. At the back of the mind they know that if they don’t do well in this series, it actually puts a question mark. There’s a lot to lose and a lot to gain for the younger players from an opportunity to come and play.”
“(The tour) provides an ideal opportunity for our younger players to test international waters. Gives them the experience of finding their feet in international cricket. The confidence they derive from doing well in these games augurs really well for us and for the future of Indian cricket,” he added.
The likes of KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Jasprit Bumrah has made significant contributions in the ODI series and also primed to deliver in T20I series as all the players in the squad except Faiz Fazal comes by playing IPL just before the tour and are expected to perform in the shortest format.
“We’re hoping to match our own expectations when it comes to T20. We’re coming on the back of an IPL so that should hold us in good stead when we play this format,” Bangar opined.
