Want to be a professional cricketer?
Alex Hales has got the support from England’s White ball captain Eoin Morgan for returning to fields with the national team. Morgan opines that Hales is a fantastic player but need to learn on and off-field values to recreate bond with his teammates.
Alex Hales was ruled out from the team just ahead of the World Cup 2019 after he failed to pass England Cricket Board‘s recreational drugs policy for the second time in his career. The opening batsman was the crucial player for the English team and his ouster from the mega event would have costed the team.
Alex is in a unique position: Eoin Morgan
The skipper Morgan backs Hales for a comeback but feels it would be hard for him to gain the trust back. Eoin Morgan added by saying that the incident happening during the cusp of the World Cup was dramatic and heartbreaking. Hence, like life in general, only time can heal the wounds.
“Alex is in a unique position, probably a position that nobody else has found themselves in before. On the cusp of a World Cup, the huge breakdown in trust between him and the players was extremely dramatic, given the circumstances surrounding the four years [between World Cups] and the build-up, and the way that things unfolded. I’ve certainly spoken to Alex, and certainly see an avenue for him to coming back to playing cricket. But like in life and in any sport, I think when there’s a breakdown of trust, the only healer in that is time.” Morgan said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
Further, Morgan heaped praise on Hales’ batting, saying there is no doubt that he is a fantastic player. However, he said that he needs to improve in one area that adheres values which might help to regain the trust.
