England star Stuart Broad has reacted to the harsh treatment meted out to his teammate Ollie Robinson for his behaviour in the recently-concluded first Ashes Test.

The right-arm pacer is being called ‘No.1 villain’ by the Australian media for his abusive send-off to Usman Khawaja during the first innings. After ending Khawaja’s sublime knock of 141 runs, Robinson let his emotions get the better of him as he was heard telling the Australia opener: “F*** off, you f***ing p***k.”

Following the incident, the Australian cricket fraternity has singled him out for special treatment. Experts and fans have not squandered a single opportunity to take a shot at Robinson. Later, he justified his actions and stated that he does not care about the criticism he is facing for his expletive-laden send-off.

“It’s the Ashes, it’s professional sport. If you can’t handle that, what can you handle? When you’re in the heat of the moment and have the passion of the Ashes that can happen.

“I don’t really care how it’s perceived, to be honest. We’ve all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussies do that to us so just because the shoe’s on the other foot, it’s not received well,” Robinson said.

Stuart Broad defends Ollie Robinson:

Stuart Broad, on Thursday (June 22), took to Twitter to leap in defence of his England teammate. It all began after Australian news outlet Fox Sports shared a news article by adding the words ‘No.1 villain’ in front of Robinson’s name.

Broad noticed the tweet and decided to respond to it. The veteran pacer had a hilarious reaction to it as he wrote: ““No1 Villain?!” I can’t have lost that tag already can I?! Disappointing.”

Broad had faced a similar treatment from the Australian media and fans for an incident that took place during 2013 Ashes. In the first Test of the series at Trent Bridge, Broad stood his ground after being given not out when he edged an Ashton Agar delivery and was caught by Michael Clarke. He was batting on 37 at that time and went on to score 65 runs. England eventually won the game by 14 runs.

Following the incident, the-then Australia coach Darren Lehmann had accused Broad of cheating and had urged the fans to make Broad cry in the return Ashes series.
