Exclusive: Navjot Singh Sidhu to be in trouble regarding commentary for IPL 2014
Though we loved those ‘Gagan Chumbi Chhakkas’ or ‘Thoko Taalis’ of the turban studded Sidhu paaji but he seems to be in trouble regarding those as legal grounds find the former cricketer guilty. Broadcasters Star India is all set to file a case against Navjot Singh Sidhu as the cricketer turned commentator seemingly broke the claws as mentioned in the deal with the company. Amongst the company policies, there was this commitment that Sidhu would be exclusively working for Star India which was crossed as he turned commentator for the 7th season of IPL. Now Star India has appealed to Mumbai High court for the refund of the amount paid to Sidhu.
The three-year-old contract worth 22.5 crores stated that from May 2013, Sidhu had to provide at least 150 days of commentary for the first calendar year and the same of 180 days for the next years. Star India also informed of paying the fees in advance but Sidhu failed to hold on to the terms. He only worked for 41 days in the year and then went on to join Sony Entertainment Television opposing the ‘Exclusivity’ rule.
This bore for the Star India house a huge loss as Sidhu was their main commentator for the hindi channels but he did not engage himself for the commited number of days. Again, the lumpsum they had paid as the fees was regarding the fact that Sidhu would be exclusively working for the network. Now that the case has been filed, itis yet to see what comes out. Sidhu’s comments on the matter stand missing.
