It Was Fair To Include Ajinkya Rahane In The Side, Says Karun Nair’s Father

Karun Nair’s father has called the Indian team’s decision to include Ajinkya Rahane in the playing XI instead of his son a fair one.
Karun Nair’s omission from the ongoing Test against Bangladesh had caused quite a stir and why not. The Karnataka star scored 303* in his last outing for India when he replaced an injured Ajinkya Rahane in Chennai in December and fully deserved another chance under his belt. However, the team management replaced India’s second triple-centurion with Rahane, who had recovered from the finger injury that kept him out of the last two tests against England.
Rahane is undoubtedly one of the batting mainstays of the Indian Test team and Nair’s father, it seems, is well aware of that fact.
“It was fair to include Ajinkya Rahane in the side”, Karun’s father, Kaladharan Nair told Deccan Chronicle.
“Rahane is a good player and deserved to be in the side and this was known to my son. Karun is a strong boy and I am sure he will take it in the right spirit. He will not lose confidence,” he added.
Nair senior hopes to see his son in action during the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
“Karun will get his dues and hopefully will get the chance to play against Australia. Australia is a stronger team (than Bangladesh) and we hope he gets many more runs against them,” he said.
“It is not fair to comment on what a batsman should do in such a situation. Every father wants his son to play the match,” Kaladharan said when asked whether Rahane should have opted out of the one-off Test to allow his junior teammate getting some good experience.
“It was a team decision, which was guided by the captain and the coach and we respect the decision,” he added.
Karun’s coach Shivanand also backed the team management’s decision to include Rahane in the team.
“He was out of the team because of his injury. Now he has recovered and it was a good decision (by the team management) to have him included in the side.”
