‘Fan’ of pace, Dale Steyn happy to help fast bowlers
Veteran Proteas bowler Dale Steyn made a successful comeback to international cricket. He is back as the leading man for the South Africa side. He currently at par with former great Shaun Pollock with 421 Test wickets. Steyn though achieved the feat in 20 fewer games. His career has seen stop and start phases. He sustained a shoulder fracture in 2016 while his side had a successful tour of Australia.
Steyn is unlikely to feature in the shortest format anytime soon. He hasn’t played one in two years time and probably wont make the cut fir the World T20 in Australia, 2020. At the twilight of his career. Steyn focusses on doing well in the longer formats of the game.
Dale Steyn happy to help
He says that he is a fan of fast bowling and is happy to help anyone who would ask for help. He got approached by pacer Pat Cummins and Test squad member Brendan Doggett. The Australian duo admires Steyn’s skill-set and the character he posses. Cummins praised the fluency of Steyn’s run-up and the fierce follow-through.
“I’d love to make a joke right now and say ‘make me a bowling coach’,” Steyn told cricket.com.au after he learnt of Doggett’s admiration. “But I’m a fan of fast bowling, and I go through phases myself where I draw inspiration from other fast bowlers.
He also said that on numerous occasions he drew inspiration from fellow cricketers. “Mitchell Johnson when he was on fire during that Ashes (in 2013-14) was just inspirational, I loved watching him. Brett Lee at the 2003 World Cup, for me, are highlights; Shoaib (Akhtar from Pakistan) in ’99, Allan Donald throughout his whole career, I can shout it out to you.” he tells you with a kid like passion.
“But if there’s any bowler who wants any type of advice, I’m happy to share what I’ve got because I’m a fan of fast bowling.” he added.
