ToggleAustralian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has returned to his old Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who put a whopping bid for him for INR 10.75 crore.
Just a few months ago, in last October, the Australian star limited-overs all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced his break from the cricket to battle with his mental issues. Recently, he has returned to the local cricket and he is also eyeing to return to domestic cricket.
The 31-year-old Glenn Maxwell is an experienced and regular cricketer in the limited-overs format. Since his international debut in 2012, he has played 61 T20Is where the right-handed batsman has scored 1,576 runs with an average of 35.02 and an incredible strike-rate of 160.00. He has hit three centuries and seven half-centuries in T20I career. As an off-spinner, he has also bagged 26 T20I wickets.

In T20 career, Maxwell has scored 5,589 runs in 251 T20s with an average of 27.00 and strike-rate of 154.94. Apart from three centuries, the right-handed batsman has also hit 30 half-centuries in T20 career. Meanwhile, he has also scalped 85 T20 wickets.
Glenn Maxwell played for KXIP between 2014 and 2017, had a rich record
Glenn Maxwell is also an experienced IPL player who made his debut in this league in 2012. After playing his first IPL season for Delhi Daredevils in 2012, Maxwell served for Mumbai Indians in 2013, strongly played for Kings XI Punjab between 2014 and 2017 and returned to the Delhi franchise again in 2018. He opted out the IPL 2019 due to the preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

In 69 IPL matches, Maxwell has scored 1,397 runs (average 22.90 and strike-rate 161.13), including six half-centuries. He has also taken 16 wickets in this cash-rich tournament.
In IPL 2014, when KXIP finished as the runners-up – their best ever IPL record, Glenn Maxwell finished as the third most run-scorer in that tournament. He scored 552 runs in 16 matches of that tournament (average 34.50 and strike-rate 187.75), including four half-centuries. At the end of that season, Maxwell won the Player of the Tournament award.
Observing Maxwell’s impressive T20 records, KXIP became desperate to buy him again in the ongoing IPL auction. While his base price was INR 2 crore in this auction, his other old franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) also put a continuous strong bid for him after KXIP started that battle. Finally, KXIP won that battle after putting the highest bid for him of INR 10.75 crore.

In five full IPL seasons, Maxwell has only once scored 500-plus runs. Has scored less than 200 runs thrice… is this really a worthy 10-crore plus investment? #IPL2020Auction
