The cricketing world is in a state of shock courtesy, the latest punishments imposed on the Australian trio involved in ball tampering by Cricket Australia. Australian captain Steven Smith and David Warner have been handed a 12 months ban. While Cameron Bancroft has been handed a nine months ban for the offense.
However, fans and cricket experts feel that the ban imposed by the national cricket board is a bit too harsh. Ball Tampering has always been an act on the cricket field, but very few players have been caught and have been punished to such extent.
However, this ban on the Australian players will certainly send a message to the players around the world.
Former Australian leg-spinner and one of the greats of the game, Shane Warne mentioned that current South African captain Faf Du Plessis has been charged twice, while new ball bowler Vernon Philander has also been charged for the same offense once.
The ICC imposed punishments under the cricketing laws, but none of them were banned.
However, Warne was slammed by the fans when he mentioned Sachin Tendulkar’s name in the players who have practiced ball tampering in the past. Warne in his Facebook post wrote:
“Their (Australia) opposing captain in this series, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, has been charged with the offense twice, and opening bowler Vernon Philander once.”
He further added:
“The list of players who have been charged with ball tampering is long and contains some of the biggest names in the game, like Sachin Tendulkar and Mike Atherton.”
The fans slammed the legendary leg-spinner for mentioning Sachin’s name as the Indian cricketer is considered as one of the greatest ambassadors of the game of cricket.
