Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently facing a bad patch which continued in the first innings of the Wellington Test against the hosts New Zealand.

The two-match Test series between New Zealand and India have started on Friday (21st February) at Basin Reserve (Wellington). Indian captain Virat Kohli lost the toss on the morning as the hosts sent them to bat first.

The Indian batsmen struggled the whole day while the last session was totally interrupted due to the rain. At the stumps of the opening day of the first Test, the visitors were battling at 122 for five. Indian captain Kohli scored the lowest runs of the day as the right-handed batsman was dismissed on just two runs.

Virat Kohli was caught at the first slip:

Kohli came to bat in the 16th over after the dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara (11). After managing to add a five-run partnership with the opener Mayank Agarwal, Kohli lost his wicket in the 18th over.

The Test debutant Kyle Jamieson dismissed both Pujara and Kohli in the back-to-back overs as they were his first two Test wickets.

On the fifth ball of the 18th over, Virat Kohli went to play Jamieson’s fullish outside the off-stump delivery, but he edged that, and it carried to the first slip fielder Ross Taylor, who is playing his 100th Test.

Taylor managed to grab that catch safely, and the hosts secured that crucial wicket.

In recent times, Kohli has struggled to perform consistently. In this year, he has batted 14 times in international cricket but failed to hit at least one century.

The tall pacer Jamieson took another wicket as he dismissed the in-form middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari for just seven runs.

At the stumps of the day, the Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was batting on 38 runs, and the wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant scored unbeaten 10.

Apart from Rahane, opening batsman Mayank Agarwal (34 runs) was the other Indian batsman who crossed the 20-run mark in Wellington.
