Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has once again attracted controversy by commenting about the captaincy of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Dev was recently in the headlines for his alleged negative remarks about India’s greatest ever batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Barely five days later, Dev has again grabbed the eyeballs by passing an unwanted remark over the comparison between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
“Baap Baap hota hain aur beta beta hota hain (Father is the father while son is the son) ,” Dev said, when asked who the better among Dhoni and Kohli was as the skipper. MS Dhoni is currently India’s limited overs skipper, while Virat Kohli leads the test side.
“There is a still long way to go before Kohli the captain matches the achievements of Dhoni. Having said that, Kohli has been doing great as a batsman and I am sure he will be equally good as India’s captain,” said Dev.
Dev also said that Virender Sehwag deserved a farewell game, but the absence of it didn’t undermine his contribution to Indian cricket. “We should leave it to selectors to decide. It is not possible to give everyone a farewell game. If you ask me, it doesn’t matter whether Sehwag played one more game for India. The fact is that he remains a great player. Azharuddin who played 99 Tests wanted one more game, but it didn’t pan out that way,” he said.
