- Backing the individuals:
For a coach to be successful in any sport, it is highly imperative to back the right individuals within the team and not get bogged down by few failures. Considering that trait, a box is ticked when Shastri is considered as the head coach. During his reign as the team director of the outfit, Shastri made it a point to back a few members profusely despite failures, and that did the trick. Shikhar Dhawan for example, had been in a terrible phase in early 2015, having had low scores in the Test series, and later the tri series. Shastri however, fully backed the southpaw to succeed and that did wonders, as Dhawan emerged as India’s best batsman in the 2015 World Cup with over 400 runs to his name.
