Fifth Test Between India-England On Schedule After Cyclone Vardah Hits Chennai 1

The fifth and final Test of the Anthony De Mello series between India and England is as per schedule as of now, which starts from December 16 at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium as the organizers don’t see any big threat so far off Cyclone Vardah.

The sports authorities are pitching it hard to host the dead-rubber in any possible way. The establishments in Chennai are hopeful the cyclone will pacify as there are still four days to get the game underway.

The weather disruption has brought the traffic to a grinding halt with authorities taking the precautionary measures at the earliest.

Fearing the loss of lives, reports suggest the Cyclone Vardah hit near Chennai at the 100-120kms per hour and is heading towards the Tamil Nadu coast that could revive the fears of destruction which last year’s flood had left.

The heavy rains and high speed winds had hit the north of Chennai and Nellore which also caused landfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh this afternoon.

During the series with New Zealand in October, the weatherman predicted the Cyclone Kyant can play spoilsport for the fifth and final One-day International game on October 29 against New Zealand in Vishakapatnam.

However, till then the cyclone had leveled down in intensity when both teams were tied up at 2-2 before India clinched the five-match ODI series 3-2 against the Kiwis.

Earlier, with the Chennai authority declaring a week-long mourning following its Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s death, the speculation around the India-England Test were at high, but the authorities didn’t change the venue for the game.
