We Firmly Stand By Our Captain Virat Kohli: Diana Edulji 1

Committee of Administrators (COA) member Diana Edulji has said the BCCI’s decision to bury the hatchet with Cricket Australia (CA) over the DRS controversy was a correct one. The controversy that took place on the final day of the Bengaluru Test after Australia skipper Steven Smith was caught seeking input from the dressing-room on a DRS referral, has marred the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. But after a lot of drama, officials from both the boards held a meeting in Mumbai earlier this week and resolved the issue to turn the focus back on cricket ahead of the much-anticipated Test matches in Ranchi and Dharamsala.

“The matter was discussed by the COSA members in Bengaluru. We were in Bengaluru for the awards function where the matter was discussed with CEO Rahul Johri and coach Anil Kumble. Vikram (Limaye) joined us via video conference. We believe that for the best interest of the game, the series should go on without any hiccups,” Edulji said.

Edulji further said the BCCI is firmly behind their skipper Virat Kohli, who is being targeted by the Australian media after he accused the Australia team of seeking help from the change-room during DRS referrals.

“Yes, we firmly stand by our captain Virat Kohli and that’s why the statement was issued supporting our captain. We have complete faith in our captain and it’s not the case that BCCI did not stand with the skipper,” she said.

The former cricketer also hopes both the skippers will sort out the issue before the third Test, which begins on March 16 at Ranchi.

“We are hopeful that before Virat and Smith go out for the toss in Ranchi, they will sit across the table and amicably sort out the differences,” she concluded.
