Since the game has taken a shift towards the batsmen, it is fitting to look at the five batsmen who have made a significant mark in the league.
With IPL entering a new decade, we will see many such entertaining cricketers logging head against each other. Although these might not be the most flamboyant of players, they have performed consistently and have won plenty of games for their respective teams.
On that note, let us take a look at the top five highest run-scorers in IPL:
#5 David Warner
The swashbuckling opener from Australia features fifth on the list. Warner registered 4014 runs with a staggering strike-rate of 142.13 since his arrival in IPL.
He also won the Orange Cap in IPL 2017, however, he will miss the upcoming edition in the wake of the recent ball-tampering scandal. With three centuries and the highest score of 126 to his name, Warner has led the team from the front.
He famously led Hyderabad to victory against RCB in the IPL 2016 final to clinch the cup for the first time. His has shown immense consistency over the years, and SRH will surely miss his service.
#4 Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir has not been in his top-notch during his days in Delhi Daredevils. However, he stormed back to form when he shifted his base to Kolkata.
Having scored 4132 runs at an average of 31.78, Gambhir has played several game-changing knocks for his team. The southpaw showed his aggressive style of batting when he hammered 93 against Bangalore strike rate of 182.
Meanwhile, with his inspiring leadership, Gambhir has won two IPL titles for Kolkata.
However, he is yet to score an IPL hundred. He will look forward to scoring a hundred when he takes the field for Delhi again in 2018.
#3 Rohit Sharma:
Sharma, who was initially with Deccan Chargers shifted his base to Mumbai Indians a few years later. Since then, he has become one of their mainstays in the batting line-up.
Batting at the top-order, Sharma amassed a total of 4207 runs at an average of 32.61. He also has a brilliant century to his name against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Further, he has won three IPL championship with the Mumbai side and will look to replicate his performance.
#2 Virat Kohli
Over the years, Kohli has become the premier batsmen in the country. He has made it a habit of scoring runs.
Kohli has registered 4418 runs throughout his IPL career with four centuries to his name. He has taken batting to a whole new level with a staggering strike rate of 37.44.
However, Kohli is yet to win an IPL title. He will look to do everything possible to win the title this year.
#1 Suresh Raina
IPL’s leading run-scorer, Raina has been brilliant in all the departments for Chennai Super Kings. The southpaw has seen a change in fortunes batting at no 3 for the Chennai based team.
With CSK banned for two years, he joined Gujarat Lions where he did not enjoy as much success. However, with CSK back in the mix, he will be looking to do well on the big stage.
Meanwhile, Raina scored 4540 runs throughout his career including one hundred and 31 half-centuries.
He will look to make a strong case for himself with a strong performance in the Indian Premier League.
