2. Dinesh Karthik: Karthik has been a regular member of the Indian national side, both in Tests and ODIs before the entry of MS Dhoni into the international circuit. Karthik suffered a form slump in late-2007 and was dropped from the Test team, and since then has only made sporadic international appearances, although he continues to score heavily in domestic cricket.
He has been in sublime form throughout the domestic season of 2016-17, scoring a total of 854 runs, combining the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Deodhar Trophy, 4th most by a cricketer in domestic circuit in a season in India.
Riding on Karthik’s splendid performance Tamil Nadu went on to clinch the Vijay Hazare and the Deodhar Trophy.
He has been with Gujarat Lions since 2016 for the Indian premier league and has proved his mettle there as well.
The selectors should take into consideration his current form across all the league’s he has been playing when they take a final call on the team selection.
