Karthik was part of the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy and in the ODI series in West Indies. He has looked in good touch in whichever format he has played and has been scoring plenty of runs for his franchises in T20 cricket. Karthik was brought in as a replacement of Manish Pandey for the Champions Trophy.

He could have been included in the squad as the 2nd wicket-keeper but the Indian selectors are currently looking at the future and omitted Karthik in the best interest of the team.
