The tall and lanky leg-spinner was one of the products of IPL who was fast tracked to play for India on the basis of performance in IPL. He had a sensational ODI debut as he took wickets off the last bowl of first 3 overs he bowled. All the three batsmen were out in the same fashion, bowled. After that series, he became a permanent member but just played a handful of matches. Though he was chosen in the team which travels to Australia but he was rarely used there. He was benched for 8 consecutive matches as R.Ashwin was preferred over him. Dhoni was criticised for this decision. After the series, Rahul Sharma got just little chances and just played one match more before he was finally was dumped by M.S. Dhoni. Since then Rahul Sharma has lost has confidence as now he is even finding it difficult to get a place in his state team. he hasn’t played competitive cricket for past 2 years.
