IND v ENG 2016: 5 Reasons Why India Will Seal The Series At Wankhede
Dec 6, 2016 at 6:48 PM
Virat Kohli and co. will look to seal the series at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Team India are 2-0 up in the five-match Test series and the upcoming fourth game can turn out to be the decider if all goes well for the hosts.
Here we look at five reasons as to why India will seal the series at Wankhede:
1) India’s Winning Streak
Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India is on a winning streak which currently seems unbreakable. The Indian skipper has magical figures as captain as after his first 20 Tests, the Delhi batsman has lost only two, whereas he has won 12.
Team India are currently 2-0 up in the ongoing series and they’re well on their way to create history at the iconic Wankhede.
2) The All-Round Trio
The all-round trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav are undoubtedly the main reason why scoreline is 2-0 in favour of the hosts. Jayant made his debut at Vizag and he delivered from ball one. It didn’t look as if he was playing his first Test as he looked settled in his approach.
Talking about the other two, Ashwin and Jadeja are turning out to be nightmares for every visiting team. If all goes well for these three, India will surely seal the series at Wankhede.
3) Pujara Factor
When England last toured India, one Indian that stood tall was Cheteshwar Pujara. His double hundred at Motera followed by another ton at Wankhede, the Saurashtra run-machine was in full-swing but couldn’t help the hosts save the series in 2012.
With the ongoing series almost done and dusted, the new ‘Wall’ of Indian cricket will play a major role and one thing is for sure if Pujara gets runs, India will win the series at Mumbai.
4) Injuries Haven’t Affected Team’s Performance
During the tour of the West Indies earlier this year, injury scare started to haunt Virat Kohli’s side. One by one all opening batsman got injured and that resulted in the comeback of our own ‘pocket size dynamite’ Gautam Gambhir.
KL Rahul was injured when the five-match Test series against England began, he returned but couldn’t perform well and in the process, he missed the Mohali Test due to a forearm injury.
Wriddhiman Saha, also termed as the best wicket-keeper batsman by head coach Anil Kumble and skipper Kohli, suffered thigh strain during the Vizag Test and his participation for the remainder of the series looks unlikely.
The good thing that has come out for the hosts after all these injuries is that nothing of the above has made any impact on the results, so far.
5) The Importance of Support Staff and Team Management
India were in dire straits at Rajkot, where one wicket could’ve opened the flood gates for visitors to draw first blood but resistance from Jadeja along with skipper Virat Kohli saved the hosts from blushes.
The one thing that should be noted is the backing this young team has received from the support staff and team management. Anil Kumble along with Sanjay Bangar and his team have made it easy for the young guns to settle and play their natural game at international level.
Parthiv Patel came into the side after eight long years and he said he didn’t feel any pressure and was welcomed warmly by everyone.
