In 1999 the Asian Test championship match was watched by only a few officials, journalists, VIPs, and police as the 100000 lakh capacity rioting crowd were expelled from the stands by police. India was rattled by Pakistan bowlers batting first. The crowd got angry as Shoaib Akhtar prevented Sachin’s running between the wicket, as a result, Indian maestro got out, crowd rioted on the fourth day afternoon and then again on the fifth morning when India was on the brink of defeat at 231 for nine.

The violence was unpleasantly the reminiscence of 1996 World Cup semi final when Sri Lanka was awarded victory. The game resumed and Pakistan swiftly claimed the last wicket to complete victory.

No one was killed, only one person was injured who appeared to be a member of the ground staff.
