The introduction of ODI cricket has changed the game dramatically. The introduction of ODIs itself is one hell of a story to tell. In 1971, England & Australia were scheduled to face off in a Test match at MCG. The first three days of the match were washed out and eventually, the match was called off. The Melbourne authorities were going to face huge losses because of this. So, as a short-term measure to give the public something to watch, the players agreed to play a 40 eight-ball over match.

The match since then was considered as the first ever ODI match. The match which came out of a quick thought got etched in the history of the game.

The ODI cricket gave fans the much-needed entertainment which they were missing because of so many draws in Test matches those days. The introduction of ODIs in one way had made cricket a commercially rich sport.
