- Introduction of World tournaments:-

The introduction of World Cup has to be one of the biggest moments in cricket history. It all started in 1973 when ICC organized a Women’s World Cup. A couple of years later in 1975, the first ever Men’s World Cup was organized. The first two editions were won by the mighty West Indian side. But in 3rd edition, beyond everyone’s expectations team India won it under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The craze for cricket in India reached an all time high and it has never gone down since then.
It is also in one way the start of Globalization of the sport. It would not have been possible with Test cricket. Many countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh started their cricketing journey here. They got to play against top countries and the opportunity to improve their game because of ODI cricket and World tournaments giving them a lot of exposure. World tournaments have always been a huge commercial success.
