Australian cricketer Steve Smith is no.1 in the ICC Test batting rankings. He has played five innings in ongoing Ashes 2019 and has scored 671 runs at an average of 134.2. Nobody can stop the player from striking runs and making centuries. If he consistently scores runs at this speed, he is likely to break the record of legend Sir Don Bradman.
Veteran players are comparing Smith with Bradman and some are of the view that he is better than the legend. The debate is increasing day by day as the player is giving outstanding performance through his bat. Not only he has become the top scorer but also regained his no.1 position in Test batting rankings during Ashes.
As he is showcasing best batting presentation, Forbes praised his efforts. Tristan Lavalette, the writer for Forbes, mentioned that when Steve Smith settles in the field you can see the fear on the faces of England crowd. He considered him to be better than Bradman.
“He’s got to the point when you just expect him to score a century every time he enters the crease. Once he’s on about 20, it’s inevitable. He’s going big. You can feel that dread of doom engulfing England and the crowd when Smith is settled,” wrote Lavalette in Forbes.
Don Bradman has played in the same condition throughout his career whereas Smith has represented his team globally, Lavalette gives the logic that why Smith is better than the legend. No bowler can bowl him out with his technique.
“There is an argument to suggest he might even be better than Bradman considering Smith’s greater competition he’s faced and the increasingly gruelling schedule these days. Bradman only played in England and Australia. With all due respect, I’m going to take a stab at it and guess that teams weren’t able to strategize much back in the 1930s and ‘40s.
“Even with all the technology and expertise available, no one has a clue about how to stop Smith. He’s that great. A master at the absolute peak of his powers,” he wrote
