Former Maharashtra’s Ranji cricketer Shekhar Gawli fell in a 250-feet-deep gorge on Tuesday but police found his dead body on Wednesday morning.

Shekhar Gawli went for trekking with his friends in the Igatpuri taluka of Nashik where the unfortunate incident occurred. As per reports in Mumbai Mirror, Gawli slipped during trekking and fell into a 200 ft valley. Some reports also said that he fell while taking a selfie.

An official from Igatpuri police station informed PTI that the former cricketer’s body was found at 10 am on Wednesday after the search operation was conducted.

His body was found at around 10 am on Wednesday. The body will be handed over to the family members after postmortem,” an official from Igatpuri police station told PTI.

Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), taking to Twitter, informed the demise of Shekhar Gawli, who was currently the fitness trainer of the Maharashtra U23 team.

“In a tragic incident, our former player and current Trainer of the Maharashtra team Shekhar Gawli passed away tragically. Our condolences to his family and friends. We are all with his family in this tragic situation. May his soul rest in peace,” Maharashtra Cricket Association wrote on Twitter. 

Shekhar Gawli was a right-hand batsman and a leg-spinner. He has represented Maharashtra in two First-Class matches and has two wickets in his name.

Meanwhile, BCCI has planned to truncate the senior player’s domestic season of this year. Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy will only be conducted this year that means the Duleep Trophy, the Deodhar Trophy, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy have been axed from the upcoming domestic season. As per reports in the Times of India, the domestic season will start from 19 November soon after the IPL 2020 in UAE, whose finale will be played on 10th November.
