The former Windies skipper and also the experienced wicketkeeper-batswoman Merissa Aguilleira called curtains on her career from the International Cricket. She has been their experienced candidate in the ranks, and always given her best to make a positive impact on the team. However, she believes that her time is over in the game.

The 33-year-old played in 112 one-day internationals since 2008, including 74 as captain, and also led the side in 73 of her 95 Twenty20 Internationals. However, she was omitted from the squad that will tour England in the coming few days. Perhaps, she already made her decision to quit from the game.

Aguilleira captained West Indies in two World Cups, including to the final in 2013, and in three successive World T20 semi-finals in 2010, 2012 and 2014. In 2016, she was part of the West Indies team that won the World T20 title in India.

Speaking of the announcement, Merissa Aguilleira quoted that she is honoured to represent the country at the international level. Further, she thanked all her teammates, coaches and the board for trusting her abilities and giving a chance to showcase her skills.

“I wish to thank all members of the team with which I worked. And that worked with me to secure success in our endeavours to bring pleasure. And, pride, happiness and inspiration to West Indian people everywhere,” Aguilleira said in a Cricket West Indies statement.

“It is an absolute honour to have been of service to West Indies cricket. My continued goal is to assist CWI to build and develop women’s cricket and help others like me to achieve their dreams.”

Last time, she led the side one final time in the series against Pakistan in February this year, with Stafanie Taylor out injured. She also bagged over 100 dismissals as a ‘keeper with 78 catches and 26 stumping ODIs.

Career Stats:

In 95 ODIs, Aguilleira scored 1752 runs at an average of 20.51 with six half-centuries. In T20Is, she made 768 runs at 14.49 with a best of 39 not out.
