Under the leadership of Nawab of Pataudi (Mansur Ali Khan), India in the first Test at Chennai, the hosts scored 457 for seven in the first innings before the declaration came in the second innings after 152 for nine, as England posted 317 in their first innings.

In second innings, England posted 241 for five in 87 overs.

Interestingly, Pataudi used all players except gloveman to bowl in the 666th Test of the cricketing history.

The hosts’ gloveman was Budhi Kunderan, who was also a right-arm medium pacer, as Pataudi bowled a solitary over alongside Vijay Mehra and right-arm bowler Dilip Sardesai

Focusing on pace bowling line-up, India used fast bowlers which included Vasant Ranjane and Motganhalli Jaisimha against Mike Smith-led England at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
