The southpaw last played an ODI in October 2015 and was given a surprise call during the recently concluded limited-overs series against New Zealand. However, he failed to play a single game due to viral fever, thereby, missing a golden opportunity to stake his claim in the team.

He played the T20 series earlier this year against England and finished the three-match series as its third highest run-getter with 104 runs. But the Champions Trophy snub even after he scored an impressive 442 runs in this year’s IPL is a big indication that the left-handed batsman is not in scheme of things.
