India’s 2011 World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten could return with the men in blue for a possible second stint if reports are to be believed. Kirsten coached the Indian team from 2008 to 2011, and under his astute coaching, the Indians went on to win the 2011 World Cup and were the holders of the Test mace.
As per reports circulating within the BCCI, Kirsten is likely to be offered the role of the head coach. This means that if he accepts the offer, Kirsten will be on his way for a second stint with the Indian team. Kirsten admitted that he got a couple of calls from the BCCI but did not make a firm decision. “There have been one or two phone calls from the BCCI, but I was not in a position to make those decisions,” said Kirsten.
Kirsten also hinted that he could accept the offer if he felt positive. “You can never rule anything out in life. See what the situation is. I never say yes or never say no, it’s difficult,” he added.
After Gary Kirsten, Duncan Fletcher took over as India’s head coach. The latter though could not achieve the success, which was enjoyed by Kirsten. A great thing about Kirsten’s coaching was that he was able to generate respect for himself from the youngsters as well as the experienced batch of players.
