Gary Kirsten Declines BCCI’s Approach To Apply For Second Coaching Stint

Gary Kirsten, the former World Cup-winning coach of Indian cricket team, has denied the request of BCCI to apply for the post of the Head coach; a BCCI official reveal.
With fiasco going in the BCCI, the apex board is perplexed after the outgoing of Anil Kumble as, despite advertising for the post of Head Coach, the board was confident of Kumble extending his contract, but soon, the tussle between Kohli and Kumble came out in open which resulted in Kumble stepping down from the post just after conclusion of Champions Trophy 2017. He even did not stay with the team for the West Indies series, for which he was given an extension for.
Board again invited applications for the post and they themselves approached Gary Kirsten – after Kumble’s exit -but the former South African player refused to apply for the job, citing personal reasons. With Kirsten also declining, Sehwag’s case has again strengthened up as he is one of the strongest contenders to draw a contract with BCCI.
However, as reported, if Ravi Shastri also applies for the job, then the competition will be among Shastri and Sehwag, due to both of them being close to the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
Team India will get a new coach before the tour to Sri Lanka and they are all set to take West Indies without a Head Coach. Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar though have been retained in their respective roles of Batting coach and fielding coach respectively.
The pressure will be on the Indian skipper Virat Kohli to perform in the series as he is deemed to be the main reason for Kumble stepping down from the post. Hence, he has to answer it by posting a win over West Indies or else we might see one of the greatest batsman of all time failing to perform the captaincy duties, just like Indian team has seen in past as well.
