Gautam Gambhir Forgets Personal Rivalry, Praises Shahid Afridi For His Tweet On Amritsar Train Tragedy
Veteran Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir, on Thursday, praised his old nemesis Shahid Afridi for his heartwarming message on the Amritsar train accident.
Gautam Gambhir’s relationship with Pakistan allrounder Shahid Afridi is well known in the cricketing world. It all began when Pakistan visited India in 2007.
Gambhir and Afridi were involved in an ugly spat in Kanpur during the third ODI. The spat had occurred when Gambhir tried to steal a single but in the process, he collided with Afridi, who did not hesitate from expressing his disappointment. On the other hand, Gambhir was also not ready to back down which led to a heated altercation between the two. With the matter getting out of hand, umpire Ian Gould was forced to play the peacemaker role. Since then neither of the two squander any chance to take a shot at each other.
But Afridi kept his tense relationship with Gambhir and the political tension between India and Pakistan behind to express his grief over the Amritsar train tragedy that took place on Dusshera. According to reports, the incident claimed 60 lives and many more were injured.
Afridi took to Twitter to post his message, writing:
“Really tragic incident in India. Condolences with the affected families may Allah give them the strength to overcome the loss. May Allah protect us all.”

Afridi received widespread praise from the Indians for his tweet. And Gambhir also did not hesitate in doing his bit as the World Cup-winning star took to Twitter to praise Afridi for his gesture. He also had a word of praise for Shaoib Akhtar too who too had expressed his grief.
“While there may be history between me and @SAfridiOfficial but i really appreciate his gesture of expressing grief for d families of Amritsar train accident victims. Am sure everyone in India welcomes such gestures. A big thanks to @shoaib100mph too for his condolences,” wrote Gambhir.
