In a surprising and shocking news from Bhubaneswar, it has been learnt that Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir insulted the head coach of Delhi KP Bhaskar during the last tie of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Uttar Pradesh. The reason for Gambhir venting his anger on the coach is still unknown.
However, it is to be noted that KP Bhaskar was not the Gambhir’s choice as the coach of the team. In the last season as well Gambhir was not at all amused by the appointment of the former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja as the coach, which forced Jadeja to relinquish the post. This can probably be the reason for Gambhir’s outburst on the coach after Delhi’s torrid show in the first three games of the tournament.
There is another angle to it Gambhir was removed from the captaincy for the List A tournament, paving way for Rishab Pant. This can also be one of the reasons Gambhir showing his displeasure to the coach.
“Normally we all shake hands at the end of the last match of the season. This is unprecedented, the senior-most player abusing the senior-most person in the dressing room,” a senior Delhi player confirmed the news.
This was not the first time when Gambhir was involved in a spat as earlier in the year 2014, there was news of left-handed batsman threatening pitch curator Venkat Sundaram to hit him with a bat. In the next season, he threatened to quit the team, if his set of players were not selected. He also had an issue with senior state mate Rajat Bhatia, which forced the all-rounder to switch to Rajasthan mid-way through the last season.
We might see the state association seeking an explanation from Gautam Gambhir for this rude behaviour.
