Gautam Gambhir To Lead Delhi In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shikhar Dhawan-Ishant Sharma Included

The discarded Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir will lead Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to be played from January 29. The squad also includes Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma, who are not the part of Indian T20 squad for the series against England.

The squad also includes former Under 19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand, who might be asked to bat at number three with both senior players opening the innings. Arjun Gupta has received a maiden call-up to the senior team as Rishabh Pant, the regular Delhi wicket-keeper is a part of Indian T20 squad and will miss the zonal league.

Pradeep Sangwan, Navdeep Saini, Subodh Bhati and Vikas Tokas will perform the fast bowling duties with Ishant Sharma whereas Pawan Negi and Manan Sharma are the two front-line spinners in the squad, who will also be contributing with the bat as well. The squad also includes Sarthak Ranjan, who made his T20 debut last year. Though he is an opening batsman but will be asked to bat lower down the order, if given a chance.

Nitish Rana, who muscled 21 sixes in last T20 tournament, this time, will look to emulate his past performance so as to attract big buyers in IPL auction. Riding one his brilliant performance in last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he made it to the playing XI of Mumbai Indians last year where he scored 104 runs in three innings at batting strike rate of 138.66.

The 15-memeber squad selected by Nikhil Chopra, Atul Wassan, Robin Singh (jr.), K Bhaskar Pillai (Coach), Skipper Gautam Gambhir and Converter Siddharth Sahib Singh has been asked to report to coach on November 22 at Karnail Singh Stadium at 12 Noon. Delhi will face Jammu and Kashmir in their first game of the tournament on 29 January at Dharamsala.
