Gautam Gambhir Sues Resto-Bar Chain For Using His Name For Promotion 1

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has decided to drag a resto bar chain into a legal tussle for using his name as the catch phrase of the business. The matter has been taken to the Delhi High Court.

A notice has been sent on behalf of Gambhir by Justice RS Endlaw through the law firm Jaitley & Bakshi.

Sources with the understanding of the matter have revealed that Gambhir wants the west Delhi eatery/pub to stop using his name to attract customers. The cricketer is known to be a non-drinker and is miffed as the usage of his name indirectly sees him promoting alcohol consumption.

But, before we conclude anything, an ironic fact needs to be understood as the entire issue has turned out to be a case of ‘namesake’ causing disrepute to a celebrity.

Interestingly, the restaurant owner is also named Gautam Gambhir and claims to be running the place using his name.

This adds an interesting turn to the issue.

Gautam Gambhir is fresh from leading his side Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL where he had yet another successful year with the bat. The team also did reasonably well by reaching playoff before getting knocked out.

Speculations were rife that the he might get a chance to make a comeback to the ODI setup and become a part of the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy. However, luck was out favor and he was overlooked.

Outside of cricket, the 35 year old has been a vocal supporter of the Indian army and has developed a charity habit in recent times.

Recently, he launched an initiative through twitter where he urged people to show respect soldiers whenever they come across them.

In a video message on Twitter, Gambhir is seen with his mouth wrapped with a tape and holding placards with messages.

During the IPL, he also announced that his foundation will provide for all the educational expenses of the children of the Indian soldiers who were killed in the Sukma Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh.
