Former Indian cricketer and Delhi Dare Devils captain Gautam Gambhir has thrown his weight behind sacked Aussie captain Steve Smith on Thursday.
The 29-year old, who is dubbed the best test batsman of this generation was involved in ball tampering during the Cape Town test. The skipper was eventually found guilty during the probe and was sacked from his captaincy.
Steve Smith along with David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were all sanctioned for their part in sand paper gate. Smith who flew to his home from Cape Town yesterday and reached Sydney and addressed media in front of packed press conference.
The player eventually broke out while apologizing to public for his wrong doings and his error in judgement. There has been lot of sympathies for the young Australian skipper who will not be playing for Australia for the next 12 months.
His other sanctions include ineligibility up to 24 months for captaincy. The cricketing world was shocked when the scandal came out but Steve Smith still garnered some support from former players after his press conference.
Former English captain Michael Vaughan was one of the first to lend his support while there are many other cricketers who backed Smith to come back strong next year. Gautam Gambhir is the latest one to express his view on Steve Smith after his ban.

Don’t know about u but I see in him a desperate leader trying to win a Test match for his country, his team. The Aussie skipper was also stripped off his IPL captaincy and was eventually banned from the league. However, it remains to be seen if he will be allowed to play in English county season as Bancroft was given a nod ahead by his county club earlier today.
