Welsh county outfit Glamorgan, on Wednesday (November 22), announced the signing of Australia batsman Shaun Marsh as their overseas player for the next two seasons. The left-handed batsman will be plying his trade for the club across all three formats.
The club, in its press release, stated that Marsh would be available for the full county season subject but it will be subject to the next year’s Indian Premier League auction, and he would join the county only after his IPL commitments. In case, the Australian takes part in IPL; the club will engage another overseas player to cover Shaun’s duties during his absence.
Expressing his delight over securing the deal, Marsh said he grabbed the opportunity as soon as it came and is hopeful of helping the team to win some silverware.
“Securing my County future for the long term has always appealed to me, so I jumped at the opportunity when it came,” Marsh said. “There is a lot of exciting young talent at the Club, and hopefully I can put in some good performances so we can bring some silverware to Wales.”
The contract from Glamorgan presided with a surprise Test recall for the player who is yet to cement his place in the national team. The 34-year old has so far represented the team from Down Under in 23 Tests, 52 One Day Internationals and 15 T20 Internationals, scoring over 3,500 runs, including seven centuries.
Marsh is also a proven player in Australia’s domestic circuit with his average being over forty in both First-class and List A matches. He also enjoys a good T20 experience, having played 163 T20 games in addition to winning three Big Bash League titles with the Perth Scorchers.
Director of Cricket at Glamorgan, Hugh Morris, welcomes the signing, saying:
