31-year old Glamorgan batsman Will Bragg has brought down curtains on his cricket career with immediate effect.

Stating the last season was a frustrating one for him, Bragg said the time was right for him to bow out of the game to look up for other career options.

“It’s been a great experience to come through the age groups of Welsh Cricket and represent Glamorgan for over a decade,” Bragg said. “Last season was a frustrating one for me personally, and I believe now is the right time for me to step away from the game and start focusing on building a new career in another area.

“I’ve always been proactive about my life away from the game, and while it may be odd not to be reporting back to training with the lads this winter, I am enthused and excited by what the future holds for me.”

“I’d like to thank all those people who have supported me over the years, and I leave offering nothing but the best wishes for the club moving forward,” he added.

Will Bragg made his List A debut in 2005 and first-class debut a couple of years later. Bragg got included in the Glamorgan side as a reserve wicketkeeper, but with Mark Wallace going strong behind the stumps, Bragg had to work on his batting skills as a top-order batsman to get a regular place in the playing eleven. He enjoyed his most prolific season in 2016 after being to move to number three, as he amassed over 1,000 runs in the season.

Bragg represented Glamorgan in 111 first-class games, scoring six hundred and 35 fifties to accumulate 5673 runs. He played 47 List A-games and scored 1303 runs with the help of 10 fifties.

Hugh Morris, Glamorgan Chief Executive, lauded Bragg’s contribution to the county side, saying:

“Will Bragg has been an integral part of Glamorgan for more than a decade. He was a big part of the dressing room and a fine batsman for the Club, so it’s sad to see his career end prematurely.

“Will can look back on his professional career with great pride and on behalf of the club, the committee and all our supporters I want to thank him for his dedication to Glamorgan and wish him and his family all the very best in the future,” he added.
