IND vs AUS 2017: Glenn Maxwell Lucky To Get A Place In The Australian Team – Sourav Ganguly
The first two games of India vs. Australia ODI series have turned out to be a one-sided contest. In the first ODI, it was a huge target that resulted in the Indian team putting pressure on Australia right from the start, whereas in the second game, the swing of Bhuvneshwar Kumar marked a great start for India at the Eden Gardens.
In both the contests, Australia’s top order failed to their duty with Hilton Cartwright failing in both the games. The other batsmen also did not play well, and out of them, the incompetence of Glenn Maxwell has turned out to be the highlight as the experienced player has failed in both the contests till now.
In two innings, he has scored 53 runs and hasn’t bowled at all. Though Maxwell carries the tag of an all-rounder, he doesn’t perform both the roles. His poor form has now put his place in jeopardy and Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian skipper, said that if Maxwell continues to play like that, then he would not play for any team,
“HE (GLENN MAXWELL) WON’T PLAY FOR ANY TEAM IF HE CONTINUES TO PLAY LIKE THAT. HE IS LUCKY THAT AUSTRALIA PICKS HIM. I JUST DON’T SEE ENOUGH DETERMINATION IN THE AUSTRALIAN BATTING LINE-UP,” HE TOLD INDIA TODAY.
More than the scores, it is the way that Maxwell got out that has raised questions. On both the occasions, it is Yuzvendra Chahal who has scalped his wicket, and Maxwell now seems to be his bunny.
Surely, the pressure is on Maxwell to get some runs in the third ODI as there may be a case when he might sustain his place in the team due to Australia’s poor form as already, they are two down in the series, and they might not tinker with the side.
