Glenn Maxwell, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Australian all-rounder said he is looking forward to learning from two of the best batsmen in the world, RCB skipper Virat Kohli and keeper AB de Villiers, with his stint at the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Glenn Maxwell was expected to trigger a bidding war at the IPL 2021 auction owing to his skills and international pedigree despite his flop show in IPL 2020 for Kings XI Punjab(now Punjab Kings).RCB bought the star Australian all-rounder after beating CSK in an intense bidding war for a whopping INR 14.25 crore.
Glenn Maxwell Feels He Can Bring Some Energy In RCB
Glenn Maxwell added that he wants to bring energy to the team. Talking about the upcoming IPL 2021 which starts from April 9, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell said couldn’t care less for all the chatter around his hefty price tag despite underwhelming past performances as he is excited about living a long-cherished dream of playing alongside Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers.
Speaking to the media in a virtual interaction on Thursday, a day before RCB open their 2021 season against Mumbai Indians, the Aussie said, “It has been nice to slip straight into the squad. These guys have been welcoming and I have come in unnoticed. I feel like I can bring some energy. Every team I play for, I play with enthusiasm and with energy.”
“I am always looking to learn from the best (AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli). They are the best not just in T20 cricket but also world cricket. I’d like to watch them go about their business,” added the Aussie all-rounder.
“I am looking forward to this season and hopefully we can go a couple of steps further than last year.”
Glenn Maxwell failed at UAE in 2020 where he managed to score only 108 runs averaging a pathetic 15.42 at a strike rate of below 102 for KXIP and was subsequently released. On the other hand, for RCB, AB De Villiers managed 454 runs in 15 games averaging 45.4 while Virat Kohli managed 466 runs averaging 42.66 in IPL 2020.

Both skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers said that Glenn Maxwell’s inclusion will help the team.
“We are lucky to have him in our side. Exciting times we have ahead,” said Kohli.
“Excited to be with players like Maxi who I have been following for quite some time,” AB de Villiers remarked.
RCB will take on Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener in Chennai on Friday. RCB bought Glenn Maxwell (Rs 14.25 crore), Kyle Jamieson (Rs 15 crore), Dan Christian (Rs 4.8 crore), and 5 other players at their base price. KS Bharat, Suyash Prabhudessai, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby were the other 5 buys.
The team retained just 12 players while releasing as many as 10 players that included some notable names like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, and Moeen Ali. RCB traded Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams from Delhi Capitals (DC).
