Glenn Maxwell Reckons Australia’s World Cup Winning Hopes Rely on Steven Smith, David Warner’s Experience
The World Cup-bound Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has pinned hopes on the experience of Steven Smith and David Warner ahead of the twelfth edition of the World Cup. He believes the duo will be crucial for the reigning champions at the forthcoming 2019 World Cup.
As the duo has made a return in the Australian national fold following the expiry of their respective sanctions owing to the one-year ban in the wake up of ball-tampering saga in March 2018, Maxwell believes their introduction is enough to bring the stability within the line-up.
Experience key for the Aussies at the World Cup 2019:
Maxwell reiterated that the experience of the duo will boost the morale of their Aussies teammates.
There’s certainly a case Maxwell is being backed with. The southpaw Warner has been in remarkable form during the recently-held Indian Premier League (IPL).
In the twelfth edition of the IPL 2019, Warner has bagged the Orange Cap while garnering 692 runs in 12 games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
On the other side, Smith had a mixed show for Rajasthan Royals (RR).
“It’s great to have their experience — experience is going to go a long way to winning defending the Cup this time again. Guys that have played in these tournaments, it’s so valuable to the side to know what to expect when you get to tournament play,” news.com.au quoted Maxwell, as saying.
Maxwell himself has found the rhythm while taking on Pakistan when Australia won the series 5-0. The prominent batsman has played some cameos to prove an impetus to his side.
Glenn Maxwell on mental toughness:
Maxwell reflected that the massive challenge is to be clear in thoughts that what you are bound to face. He made it clear that the different roles could define the responsibility of the player, in particular.
“You’ve got to be always on mentally and thinking about how you’re going to start your innings with the different roles you’re going to play,” Maxwell added.
In the ten-team tournament, Australia will be one of the strongest teams to compete in the quadrennial event. So far, Australia has won record five World Cup titles. In between, Aaron Finch is leading his team for the first time at the mega ICC tourney.
Meanwhile, Australia has its resources to defend the urn when they will begin their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on June 1st.
